Simple Beach Permit Proposal

1) Residents can apply for a permit sticker which will be granted.(like the ATV permit)

2) Permits for tourists can be coordinated with their realtors working with the county.

3) No rental vehicles allowed on the beach

Note:

The County must continue to work with the residents to find a solution to the tour traffic on the beach and through the local communities.

Irene spares 4WD area

Hurricane Irene did not live up to the hype. Thankfully! Some siding, a few shingles and of course most of the screens seem to be the only visible damage to the outside of the homes. Duck got hit hard. Roads were covered with debris and at one spot damage appears to be extensive.

Horse and Jeep Tours

Currently, outdoor tour operators are regulated through the issuance of a special use permit. The attached language establishes a licensure requirement within the county code of ordinances. This draft ordinance was prepared at the direction of the Board of Commissioners and we invite your comment. Please note the draft allows 8 tour companies to operate 4 vehicles per tour for a total of 32 vehicles. If each tour company runs just 5 tours a day, that's 2400 tour goers a day in our communities and on our crowded beaches.

On May 16, 2011, the Currituck County Commissioners unanimously denied Developer Gerald Friedman's request to rezone 37.4 acres in Swan Beach from residential to commercial. Thanks BOC!.
